I always believed a company should have a personality and so the name should be symbolic of this philosophy.
The name Adam was decided as I hurried up the State House stairs one snowy winter afternoon in 1992 en -route to incorporating the company. I still needed a name. A simple yet poignant name…Adam.
There are several reasons and coincidences why Adam.
Adam was my dog and trusted companion for several years before immigrating to the United States from South Africa in 1987. I was forced to leave my Doberman with a very dear friend as the process to have him come was very cumbersome and included several months of quarantine. I loved Adam dearly and he filled a very important part in my life. He was always by my side accompanying me on the job sites, keeping pace while I trained for marathons, and warming my lap as I prepared my masters thesis. I always believed that one day I would go and fetch him, but he died suddenly of cancer before I could afford to do this.
Another reason for “Adam” was that I saw my immigration to America as a “rebirth”, spiritually considered as a “first born” in the new country.
For these reasons I felt Adam Construction would always have a personality and could look forward to it growing up.
